What is Live Scan Fingerprinting?

Live Scan fingerprinting is a technology that allows us to capture your fingerprints electronically. After your fingerprints have been digitally captured, they are then transmitted to the Department of Justice and/or FBI or other authorized receiving agencies to check the fingerprints against known criminal history records.  The true identity of individuals can only be established through the submission of their
fingerprints

How can I check the status of my Live Scan submission?

If a requesting agency does not have results yet and digital Live Scan fingerprints were submitted, you can use the automated telephone system to check on your submissionYou will need the following information: (1) your date of birth; and (2) the 14 digit Automated Transaction Identifier (TCN) number that appears at the bottom of the Department of Justice form requesting Live Scan fingerprint background checks. The TCN number always appears in the following sequence: 1 NUMBER; 3 LETTER AND 9  NUMBERS.

How long does it take to get my Live Scan results?

In most cases, the results from DOJ come back within 72 hours. Due to various reasons, results can be delayed. For any significant delay, the DOJ will contact the requesting agency. The results are either emailed or sent to the requesting agency listed on the Request for Live Scan Service form. Once the Live Scan process has been completed at our facility, please direct all inquiries to the agency handling your employment or \ licensing. Fingerprint Biometric Technologies Inc cannot resubmit a record without written permission from the DOJ. This process may take up to 30 days.

If my fingerprints are not accepted, what happens?

Fingerprints are rejected on occasion for several reasons. The most common reasons are the applicant’s fingerprints have characteristics that are difficult to capture in the live scan process. This would include items such as cuts, scars, and calluses. If an applicant has fingerprints rejected on this basis, and they were originally scanned by Fingerprint Biometric Technologies Inc, we will rescan your fingerprints at no additional charge.

If I have already had Live Scan fingerprints taken, do I need to be fingerprinted again?

Yes. By law, and in accordance with your right to privacy, organizations and/or companies may not share applicant background information.  The DOJ does not share your information with other agencies. An applicant’s Live Scan form acts as a release for a criminal history response to be sent to the specified requesting agency. This means that you must submit a new application each time a criminal history is requested of you, therefore you must go through the Live Scan process again. Previous Live Scan information CANNOT be utilized.

In some cases teachers and school districts will share this info. Please check with your school and district to see if this would apply to you.

Where can I get a Request for Live Scan Form?

The requesting agency (the entity that is requesting the background check) will provide you with the live scan forms necessary to complete the live scan.  These forms contain information that is unique to each agency and this information must be provided before arriving to have your prints taken.
